Election Commission of Thailand Inspects Nonthaburi PAO Election Venues Amid Weather Concerns

Nonthaburi: The Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) conducted inspections of polling stations for the Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO) mayoral election, emphasizing the importance of voter participation and addressing concerns about the weather. The ECT hopes for a voter turnout exceeding 41.8%, surpassing the previous election's figures. Officials have been instructed to prepare for potential challenges posed by strong winds and heavy rain, which could affect the stability of polling tents. The election results are anticipated by 9 PM. According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Narong Rakroi, Election Commissioner, visited the polling station at the Nonthaburi Municipal Office within the Nonthaburi Provincial Hall. He was joined by Mr. Polawat Piratichaitanakul, Election Commission expert; Mr. Chatree Chanphen, Election Commission secretary; Acting Lieutenant Colonel Phaskorn Siriphakayaporn, Deputy Secretary-General of the Election Commission; and Ms. Chuleeporn Chanbaiphad, Nonthaburi Pro vincial Election Director. The team was welcomed by Mr. Chetha Mosikarat, Nonthaburi Governor; Mr. Natthapoom Nontsirikul, Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organization Election Director; and other officials, as they observed the by-election for the vacant Nonthaburi PAO Chairman position. Mr. Narong reported that the election proceedings were orderly, and citizens were actively exercising their voting rights. However, he noted potential rain in the afternoon could impact voter turnout and advised voters to carry umbrellas. Concerns were also raised regarding the structural integrity of the tents at over 900 polling stations, which may be vulnerable to adverse weather conditions. Preventative measures have been advised to ensure the tents remain intact. "We must acknowledge that the urban nature of Nonthaburi still necessitates the use of tents. Approximately 50%, or over 900 units out of 1,450, are using tents. When it rains or there are strong winds, it may have to be suspended. Therefore, I request t hat you consider the structural integrity of the tents, as this is crucial for the stability of the polling units. Simply put, they must not be blown away or collapse in strong winds, and they must also be protected from water damage. I have already emphasized this," Mr. Narong emphasized. Mr. Narong expressed optimism that voter turnout will exceed the 41.8% recorded in the previous PAO election in September 2025. He reiterated that the election results are expected to be announced by 9:00 PM. The success of the election relies on the cooperation of all stakeholders, including the general public, eligible voters, provincial governors, and local authorities. The Governor of Nonthaburi Province indicated that rain earlier in the day might have discouraged some voters, but it ceased before polling commenced, allowing for smooth voting at the more than 1,000 stations. This development is seen as a positive indicator of high voter turnout. Efforts have been made by relevant agencies to encourage voter participa tion. Although rain is predicted for the evening, contingency plans are in place to ensure the vote counting process proceeds without disruption. The vote counts will be compiled at the Nonthaburi Provincial Stadium and broadcast live online to ensure transparency and public engagement.
