Bangkok:Heavy rain over the past two days has caused significant flooding across Bangkok, affecting many areas and leading to impassable roads for small vehicles. The water has inundated shops and homes, prompting residents to rush to stock up on essential supplies due to fears of water and food shortages.
According to Thai News Agency, the area around the Ratchada-Ladprao intersection was still experiencing heavy rain this morning, with road flooding reaching ankle-high levels. This has caused difficulties for motorists, particularly those driving smaller cars and motorcycles. Many small passenger cars stalled in the floodwaters, and motorcyclists had to push their vehicles through the rain for safety.
Observations at Ratchadaphisek Soi 10 showed several intersections flooded, with water overflowing into homes. Residents reported that rain began at around 2 AM, causing water to enter their houses, and they anticipate the situation will worsen if the rain continues. On Vibhavadi-Rangsit Road, standing water has slowed traffic, leading to congestion, with motorcycles and small cars advised to exercise caution to avoid stalling or accidents.
The highest rainfall in the city was recorded at the Thesaban Songkhro monitoring station in Chatuchak, at 210 mm, with other areas also seeing significant rainfall.
In response to the severe weather, the Mass Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) has provided free parking at several park-and-ride facilities to assist residents affected by the floods. Meanwhile, the National Water Resources Management Agency has extended flood monitoring until September 30, warning of potential flash floods and rising water levels in major rivers.
Shopping activities have intensified as people in the Bang Kapi area and other parts of Bangkok stock up on dried foods, bottled water, and other essentials, leading to crowded stores.
The "Weather Forecast" Facebook page has advised the public to be patient, predicting that the rain will continue for another two days before the situation improves.
