Bangkok:The board of Thai Airways International has decided to suspend and remove Chief Executive Officer Chai Eamsiri from his position following significant ground-handling disruptions and baggage delays at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
According to Thai News Agency, the board convened a special meeting, chaired by Lavaron Sangsnit, Permanent Secretary for Finance and Thai Airways board chairman, to address the critical labor shortages that have recently caused widespread luggage delays and flight disruptions.
Chai Eamsiri confirmed to reporters after the meeting that the board voted to suspend him and remove him from his CEO role effective October 2. He expressed that although he felt the decision was unfair given his previous efforts to guide the airline through crises, he accepted the board's decision and took full responsibility for the operational shortcomings.
As Chai left after delivering his statement, airline staff gathered to show their support for him. The board's meeting aimed to evaluate the current operational challenges and develop strategies to prevent future breakdowns in ground services.
