Chachoengsao:A striped civet bit rescuers attempting to capture it after it wandered into a house in Soi Thep Khunakon 13, Na Mueang Subdistrict, Mueang Chachoengsao District.
According to Thai News Agency, the Chachoengsao Rescue Radio Center received a report around 10 PM on October 2nd about a wild animal in distress. Volunteer rescuers from the Chachoengsao Mueang branch were dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, the rescuers found the civet clinging to a house fence. They identified the animal as a striped civet and used food as bait to catch it. The civet was secured in a basket and taken to the Chachoengsao rescue unit, where it awaited the owner's return.
Volunteer rescuer Mr. Siripong Srijarern recounted that the civet initially appeared tame and was easily coaxed with food. However, after being captured, it bit his finger, drawing blood. It is suspected that the civet escaped because its cage was moved to higher ground due to potential flooding, but the door may not have been properly secured.
The striped civet, also known as the "fragrant civet," is not legally protected and can be kept as a pet. It can emit a foul odor when threatened, but if raised closely, it may develop a pleasant scent similar to pandan leaves. Authorities are working to locate the owner to return the animal.
