Thai Surfing Team Secures Two Bronze Medals at Asian Games

Bangkok:The Thai surfing team achieved significant success by winning two bronze medals at the Asian Games. William McMillan, a Thai-Australian athlete, earned a bronze in the men's open category of IQ Foil, while 16-year-old Chanatkarn Charoensuk clinched another bronze in the girls' under-19 category of IQ Foil.

According to Thai News Agency, the windsurfing competition at the 20th Asian Games, held from September 29th to October 3rd, 2026, faced challenges due to unfavorable weather conditions and a lack of wind, which affected the schedule.

On the final day, October 3rd, 2026, only one race could be completed due to persistent wind issues. In the IQ Foil Under 19 Girls category, Chanatkarn Charoensuk participated in 11 races, accumulating 27 penalty points to secure her bronze medal. Chung Chee Yeet from Hong Kong won gold with 9 penalty points, and Oshima Akari from Japan took silver with 17 penalty points.

In the IQ Foil Under 19 Boys category, "Whale" Wachirawit Than-up finished 6th after competing in 11 races and accumulating 43 penalty points.

In the men's IQ Foil general category, William McMillan competed in 11 races, amassing 25 penalty points to win the bronze medal. Bai Kun from China won gold with 12 penalty points, and Lee Tae-hun from South Korea earned silver with 20 penalty points.

In the women's IQ Foil general category, "Dao" Siriporn Kaewduangngam finished in 6th place after 10 races with 43 penalty points. The Thai team was led by manager Mr. Ek Boonsawat and coached by Sakda Sakulfaeng and "Coach Oat" Natthapong Pothinoparat.
