Pattaya:A dramatic police chase unfolded in Pattaya as authorities pursued a sedan carrying illegal drugs for over 10 kilometers before bringing it to a halt. The vehicle was immobilized after police shot out its tires, leading to the discovery of methamphetamine pills and crystal meth inside.
According to Thai News Agency, police officers from Bang Lamung Police Station in Chonburi Province chased a suspicious white sedan near Wat Tham Samakkee in South Pattaya. The area was bustling with activity as officers attempted to stop the vehicle. Shots were fired in an effort to halt the car, which reversed and sped away, heading towards Sukhumvit Road and then towards Sattahip. The chase concluded in Soi 27, Thung Klom-Tal Man, where the car was cornered after its tires were blown out.
Witnesses, including a shocked mala vendor, described the scene as the sedan was pursued by a police patrol car. The vendor noted that police fired at the tires to stop the vehicle, with some bullets hitting the school wall, though fortunately, no injuries occurred. The suspect continued to flee until the car was ultimately stopped.
The driver, identified as Mr. Sakol, confessed to using drugs prior to the chase and expressed fear of being shot, prompting his attempt to escape. After the pursuit, authorities conducted a search of the car and found a CZ 92 6.35 mm handgun, 307.02 grams of crystal meth, 2,000 methamphetamine pills, and ammunition. Mr. Sakol now faces charges including possession of narcotics with intent to sell, illegal possession and carrying of a firearm, driving under the influence of drugs, and resisting police orders.
