Chonburi Police Arrest Two in Fake License Plate Cases

Chonburi:Chonburi Highway Police have apprehended suspects in two separate cases involving vehicles with counterfeit license plates and altered tax stickers, acquired through Facebook for significant sums.

According to Thai News Agency, the first incident occurred on October 2, 2026, on Sukhumvit Road in Si Racha District, where police discovered a white Nissan Note with a fake license plate driven by Mr. Kraiphop. The license plate was originally registered to a different vehicle, while the VIN corresponded to a white Nissan Note owned by someone else. The annual tax sticker was also altered to match the counterfeit plate. Kraiphop admitted to purchasing the vehicle for 50,000 baht without any formal transfer of ownership or sales contract, and confessed to modifying the tax sticker himself.

In a second case on October 8, 2026, police identified another suspicious vehicle on Sukhumvit Road in Nong Prue Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District. A white Honda Civic driven by Mr. Banyat was found with a license plate belonging to another vehicle. The car's VIN matched a Honda Civic under suspended registration. Banyat confessed to buying the car for 40,000 baht through Facebook, again without any formal transfer or contract.

Both suspects have been charged with "forgery and use of forged official documents." The police have transferred the suspects and evidence to Sriracha Police Station and Pattaya City Police Station for further legal action. Authorities are continuing investigations to identify the source of the fake license plates and those involved in their production and distribution.
