Bangkok:The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) is intensifying its investigation into claims that entertainment venues paid bribes to government officials. Despite repeated warnings from the Phra Nakhon District to law enforcement about venues operating beyond permitted hours and without licenses, these warnings were ignored.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phumwisarn Kasemsuk, Secretary-General of the NACC, together with Mr. Prinya Chanbua, Director of Phra Nakhon District, and Mr. Natthapong Srinak, Director of the Anti-Corruption Division of the NACC, conducted an inspection of entertainment venues in the Khao San area. These venues were raided earlier by the Department of Provincial Administration.
Mr. Phumwisarn disclosed that their joint inspection confirmed the venue lacked a business license. The NACC plans a deeper investigation to see if government agencies failed to enforce laws. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has inspected the venue six times, including the recent collaboration with the Department of Provincial Administration. Despite the Phra Nakhon District Office's four letters to relevant agencies about illegal operations, no action was taken. The NACC aims to enforce the law without exception.
Addressing allegations of bribes paid by the establishment to various agencies, the Secretary-General emphasized the importance of investigating this issue. Although no reports or complaints have been received yet, he stated that if bribery is proven, legal action will be pursued to prevent public criticism. He also indicated that entertainment venues in the area might need to close temporarily.
