Police Raid Uncovers Illegal Gambling at Former Councilor’s Luxury Home

Bangkok:Police raided a luxury home in the Song Prapha area of Don Mueang District, arresting 30 individuals involved in illegal gambling activities. The residence, owned by a former Nonthaburi Provincial Council member, was the site of a gambling den where the traditional Thai dice game "Kam Thua" was played.

According to Thai News Agency, the operation was conducted by Metropolitan Police Division 2 in collaboration with Don Mueang Police Station. The raid took place after intelligence revealed ongoing illegal gambling. During the operation, two female gamblers attempted to escape, with one falling through the roof and sustaining injuries. She received first aid and was taken to the hospital, where her condition stabilized.

The raid resulted in the arrest of 22 men and 8 women. Authorities seized various items, including a banknote counting machine, dice, plastic cards, and a handgun with 60 rounds of ammunition. Investigations revealed that undercover agents had monitored the den for over a month, noting the transport of gamblers to the location to evade suspicion.

The former council member claimed to have rented the house for 30,000 baht per month and denied knowledge of its use as a gambling venue. Some gamblers had prior arrests at a known gambling den in the area. Initially, the gamblers were charged with illegal gambling, while the bookmaker and homeowner faced charges of organizing unauthorized gambling. All suspects were taken to Don Mueang Police Station for further legal proceedings.
