Bangkok:The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has intensified its investigation into illegal pubs operating in the Khao San Road area of Phra Nakhon district, ensuring that the issue is not being overlooked.
According to Thai News Agency, the NACC is focusing on entertainment venues allegedly involved in bribing government officials. The Director of Phra Nakhon District confirmed that four warning letters have been dispatched to law enforcement agencies about these establishments operating beyond permitted hours and without the necessary licenses. However, these warnings have reportedly been ignored.
Mr. Phumwisarn Kasemsuk, Secretary-General of the NACC, Mr. Prinya Chanbua, Director of Phra Nakhon District, and Mr. Natthapong Srinak, Director of the Anti-Corruption Division of the NACC, carried out an inspection of these entertainment venues following a raid by the Department of Provincial Administration earlier this morning.
The joint inspection by the NACC and the Phra Nakhon District Office revealed that the venues lacked proper business licenses. In response, the NACC plans a comprehensive investigation to identify any potential negligence by government agencies in enforcing the law. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has inspected the venue six times, including the recent inspection with the Department of Provincial Administration, yet no action has been taken. The NACC intends to probe further and enforce the law where necessary.
Regarding the bribery allegations, Mr. Phumwisarn emphasized the importance of this issue, stating that no formal reports or complaints have been filed so far. However, he assured that if credible evidence of bribery emerges, legal action will be pursued to avoid public disapproval. He also mentioned the possibility of temporary closures for these venues if the allegations are substantiated.
