Bangkok Adjusts Plan to Expedite Garbage Collection in Flood-Affected Areas

Bangkok:The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has modified its strategy to expedite the clearing of garbage in the Keha Rom Klao and Lat Krabang areas, targeting a completion date within three days.

According to Thai News Agency, Governor Chatchart Sittipunt, along with Deputy Governors Wisanu Trapsompol and Pornprom Na Wikitseth, personally oversaw the execution of a post-flood recovery initiative. This effort involves collecting large debris and cleaning the Keha Rom Klao Road area in Lat Krabang District to mitigate public suffering and swiftly restore environmental normalcy.

Deputy Governor Pornprom and Bangkok Permanent Secretary Thaiwut Khankaew coordinated with district directors and relevant agencies to revise waste collection and disposal plans under the "Working Together to Restore the City" initiative. The revisions include dividing the area into zones and assigning clear responsibilities to district offices, aiming to enhance efficiency and complete the waste collection and area restoration within the planned timeframe.

The BMA has mobilized 1,424 officers from the Environmental Department and Buddy District Offices, along with 106 garbage trucks, to expedite the removal of large waste items and flood-damaged belongings. The cumulative waste collected from the flood-affected areas has reached 7,765 tons. A zone-based approach facilitates the removal of waste from inaccessible alleys, consolidating it at designated points for loading and transportation to disposal centers.

The operation in the Keha Rom Klao area, specifically, has seen the collection of approximately 1,300 tons of waste as of October 10, 2026. The cumulative total from September 30 to October 10, 2026, stands at 5,085 tons. Efforts continue to streamline waste removal and reduce work duplication by dividing responsibilities among 12 district offices, which include Thonburi, Bang Khae, Phra Nakhon, and others, working in coordination with the Environmental Department.

In addition to waste collection, the BMA emphasizes post-flood environmental restoration. This includes managing leftover waste, ensuring cleanliness, facilitating traffic flow, and maintaining hygiene and safety. Personnel are required to use protective equipment and handle waste carefully to prevent contamination.

The BMA will continuously monitor the operation's progress, assess remaining waste volumes, and adjust resources accordingly to achieve the three-day target, ensuring a clean and safe environment for Lat Krabang residents.
