Bangkok:The government is urging the public to avoid certain routes around the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center during the IMF-World Bank meeting from October 12-18, 2026. To alleviate expected traffic congestion, officials recommend utilizing the BTS Skytrain and planning journeys in advance.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ploytale Laksamee Saengchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced that special security and traffic management measures will be in place for the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group Annual Meetings. These measures aim to facilitate the arrival of national leaders and executives from international financial organizations. The public is encouraged to plan their travel ahead, particularly on routes around the convention center and Bangkok's central business district, where traffic control may be adjusted.
Residents and visitors are advised to use public transportation options like the MRT and BTS to minimize traffic issues. Key stations include the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center Station, Sukhumvit Station, and Asok Station. It is important to stay informed about road closures and alternative routes.
The specific routes to avoid include Ratchadaphisek Road from the Rama IV intersection to the Asoke-Sukhumvit intersection, Sukhumvit Road around Nana, Asoke, and Phrom Phong, and Rama IV Road, especially near Khlong Toei and the convention center. Benjakitti Park will have service adjustments and temporary closures, with restrictions on car and bicycle entry. Additionally, connecting routes between the airports and hotels, notably from Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports, may have special traffic measures for the movement of conference convoys.
Ms. Ploytale emphasized the importance of allowing extra travel time and monitoring updates from the Bangkok Metropolitan Traffic Police as traffic measures may change based on the situation and security needs during this international event.
