Anutin Challenges Opposition on No-Confidence Motion Timeline

Bangkok:Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has countered claims by the opposition regarding the timeline for the no-confidence motion, questioning who is truly unprepared as the debate is expected to extend until December. He criticized the opposition for their tendency to make themselves look good while blaming others.

According to Thai News Agency, Anutin addressed the opposition's demands for his direct participation in parliamentary questioning, stating that he is exercising his legitimate right to delegate responses to the appropriate ministers. He emphasized that with six deputy prime ministers and 29 ministers, it is standard procedure for issues to be addressed by the relevant minister.

Anutin also dismissed allegations of belittling the legislature, asserting that his visits to civil servants in the field have been met with praise for the government's efforts. He reiterated that parliamentary tasks have been appropriately assigned to ministers or deputy prime ministers and denied any attempts to evade responsibility.

He explained that his frequent attendance in parliament this week was due to his availability, as he had already prepared for the no-confidence debate. However, he noted that future commitments, including overseas assignments, may affect his presence. Anutin stressed that his role does not include engaging in political disputes or responding to criticism.

Addressing rumors of an impending no-confidence motion under Article 152, Anutin stated that the government is ready for scrutiny and willing to answer questions clearly. He emphasized that the motion is the opposition's prerogative, not the government's initiative.

Anutin also responded to comments by Mr. Nattapong Ruangpanyawut, leader of the People's Party, who suggested the debate's postponement was due to the Prime Minister's unpreparedness. Anutin laughed off these claims, questioning the opposition's readiness and highlighting their failure to follow through on negotiations. He criticized the opposition leader for lacking maturity and for making self-serving statements.

Finally, Anutin addressed concerns about inexperienced ministers from outside the political system, arguing that dedication and policy execution are more important than experience. He encouraged criticisms to be based on the ministers' actions and intentions for the country's benefit.
