MEA Urges Halloween Safety with Electrical Precautions

Bangkok:The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) has issued a safety advisory for the public to follow during Halloween celebrations to prevent electric shock and fire hazards. The advisory focuses on the safe use of electrical equipment in festive venues, entertainment locations, and shopping malls, emphasizing the need to check electrical systems and be wary of potential water contact that might lead to short circuits.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Thadthep Wannawichit, the Director of Corporate Communications at MEA, highlighted the increased use of electrical devices, lighting, sound systems, smoke machines, and decorative signs during Halloween festivities. MEA is urging the public, businesses, and event organizers to adhere strictly to safety guidelines. These guidelines include avoiding crowded areas and ensuring the readiness of electrical equipment to safeguard lives and property.

MEA's safety recommendations include inspecting power cords, peripherals, and plugs for damage and ensuring they have intact insulation. Damaged equipment should be repaired or replaced immediately to prevent fire hazards. Additionally, electrical systems should not be installed near water sources or in areas prone to water exposure. The public is also advised against touching electrical equipment with wet hands due to the risk of electrocution.

Furthermore, MEA advises the use of standard electrical outlets and cords to prevent overloading, which can cause overheating and fires. The advisory also includes a warning against the consumption of alcohol or intoxicating substances while driving to reduce road accident risks.
