Chachoengsao:The mother and grandmother of a 19-year-old man are mourning his tragic death after he jumped into a canal and drowned while fleeing a gang attack.
According to Thai News Agency, the deceased, identified as Mr. Thanachok or Pluem, had gone to pick up a female friend when he was ambushed by a group of teenagers. After being beaten, he attempted to escape by swimming across a canal near Darul Muttakin Mosque, Khlong 17, in the Bang Nam Priao District but succumbed to exhaustion and drowned.
The family is now preparing for his funeral at Wat Vivekwanaram, Village No. 14, Bueng Nam Rak Subdistrict. The grandmother recalled a premonition where her grandson's left eye twitched before he left home, which he mentioned during their dinner. She expressed her hope for justice, revealing that the incident may be linked to a previous altercation at a concert.
The victim's mother shared that her son had recently secured a job but kept his personal life private to avoid causing her concern. Her focus is now on ensuring the police capture the perpetrators, who remain at large.
Police at Chim Phli Police Station have summoned key witnesses for questioning, which they believe will aid in gathering sufficient evidence to request an arrest warrant for the attackers.
