Cabinet Approves Unified Electric Train Fare for Bangkok, Effective 2027

Bangkok:The Cabinet has approved a new unified fare structure for the electric train system in Bangkok and its surrounding areas, setting the fare range between 17 and 45 baht per trip. This fare system, which eliminates additional initial entry fees, is scheduled to be implemented starting in 2027.

According to Thai News Agency, the Cabinet's decision aims to reduce the cost of living through a unified fare system for the mass transit system. The initial fare will be capped at 17 baht, while the maximum fare will not exceed 45 baht per trip, with no duplicate initial fares. This measure will be in effect from January 1st to December 31st, 2027.

The estimated cost for implementing this measure is budgeted at 5,807 million baht. The Cabinet has instructed the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to gather data on actual travel volume and revenue after six months of the new fare system's implementation. This information will be used in negotiations for revenue sharing with the government, and a report will be submitted to the Cabinet for further approval.
