Plans for Medical Park Development Near Thonburi Station Progress

Bangkok:Plans are underway to build a medical park on 21 rai of railway land near Thonburi Station, with "Sarapetch" and "Siriraj" hospitals collaborating on the project. A joint working group will be formed to design the area and elevate healthcare services to international standards.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sanphet Bunyamanee, Deputy Minister of Transport, recently held a meeting with Prof. Dr. Keerati Charoencholvanich, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, and representatives from SRT Asset Co., Ltd. The discussions centered on the conceptual framework for developing the Thonburi Station area into a comprehensive medical and health center.

The Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital has proposed a development direction for the Medical Park that includes a Rehabilitation Center, a Wellness Center, and residential areas. This initiative aims to create a comprehensive healthcare system that focuses on medical treatment, rehabilitation, and long-term health promotion, accommodating both Thai citizens and international patients.

Siriraj Hospital currently faces space and capacity limitations due to a high number of patients and operating at full capacity. The core service network, which includes Siriraj Hospital, Siriraj Piyamaharaj Karun Hospital, and the Kanchanapisek Medical Center, consists of approximately 23,000 personnel. Therefore, there is a need for expanding service capacity and developing facilities to support future medical missions.

The meeting participants also discussed efficient land use for the State Railway of Thailand's property, taking into account Siriraj's land needs and project development models. They emphasized the importance of adhering to relevant criteria and regulations to ensure concrete implementation of land development.

In the next phase, a joint working group will study and design guidelines for the Thonburi Station area. This includes developing models, allocating space for medical activities, and proposing management and project implementation approaches. The objective is to leverage the potential of state land to benefit the healthcare system, increase public access to medical services, and support Thailand's aim to become an international medical and health hub.
