Southern Truckers and Residents Assemble in Nakhon Si Thammarat for Upcoming Bangkok Protest

Nakhon Si Thammarat:Truckers and residents from southern Thailand convened in Nakhon Si Thammarat province on Thursday, preparing for a planned convoy to Government House in Bangkok over the weekend. The demonstrators are calling for government-imposed fuel price caps and actions to address the increasing cost of living.

According to Thai News Agency, the gathering took place in Cha-uat district, attracting supporters from nearby districts and surrounding provinces, including Phatthalung, Songkhla, and the three southern border provinces.

The event, organized by the People's Revolutionary Coalition to Protect the Land and Citizens Affected by the High Cost of Living, marks the initial staging area for the rally. Organizers anticipate participation from at least 300 trucks and civilian vehicles, with many vehicles already stationed along a several-hundred-meter stretch of Phetkasem Road.

Protesters at the location stressed the peaceful nature of their assembly, aiming to prompt government intervention in alleviating high living costs, primarily influenced by soaring fuel prices. Both plainclothes and uniformed police officers have been dispatched to closely monitor the demonstration, while traffic at the intersection continues to flow despite significant roadside parking.
