DOPA CARE Initiative Boosts Opportunities for People with Disabilities Across Districts

Bangkok:The Department of Provincial Administration (DOPA) is advancing its "DOPA CARE" initiative, focusing on creating "Reliable Districts" that enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities by offering job opportunities and income generation spaces at district offices.

According to Thai News Agency, this initiative is spearheaded by Mr. Narucha Khosasilvilai, Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration. The program emphasizes the importance of supporting the self-reliance and dignity of people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups, recognizing their potential to earn a living when provided with the right opportunities and support. District offices across the nation are being encouraged to allocate areas for people with disabilities or their caregivers to sell goods and services, thereby increasing their income opportunities and ensuring their equal participation in society.

In alignment with Section 35 of the Act on the Promotion and Development of the Quality of Life for People with Disabilities, B.E. 2550 (2007), DOPA has established sales areas in every district nationwide as of October 26, 2026. Currently, 84 individuals with disabilities or their caregivers are utilizing these spaces to offer products such as food, beverages, lottery tickets, souvenirs, and handicrafts. This initiative not only improves income opportunities but also allows citizens visiting government offices to support the employment of people with disabilities directly.

For instance, in Phra Phutthabat District, Saraburi Province, a "Smiling District Market (Market Day)" was organized, enabling people with disabilities who have undergone vocational training under Section 35 to sell agricultural and community goods. Meanwhile, in Pho Thong District, Ang Thong Province, the district office lobby serves as a designated sales point for people with disabilities. A comprehensive vocational training plan, including product publicity and collaboration with local vocational training groups, is in place to enhance product quality and improve living standards for people with disabilities.

Participants in the initiative have reported increased customer recognition and income, which helps alleviate hardship and supports their families. They expressed gratitude to the district and provincial authorities for their commitment to supporting employment among people with disabilities.

Mr. Khosasilvilai further emphasized that district offices should serve as inclusive spaces offering equal work opportunities, especially for people with disabilities. The ongoing DOPA CARE policy aims to provide platforms for individuals with disabilities to showcase their abilities, build self-esteem, and live with dignity. Those interested in participating can contact any district office nationwide for more information, subject to specific criteria and conditions.
