Surin Province Showcases Elephants in Festival Promotion Parade

Surin:The northeastern province of Surin is promoting its upcoming annual elephant festival with a parade featuring tusked elephants and local cultural performances. The 12-day event is scheduled to take place from November 14 to 25.

According to Thai News Agency, the launch event at the Elephant Study Center in Ban Ta Klang highlighted more than 10 decorated elephants marching alongside traditional folk performers. This initiative is aimed at promoting local cultural heritage and boosting local tourism.

Organizers of the festival have named it "Surin Elephant Wonder - Heart of Surin." The event is designed to preserve the cultural identity of local ethnic groups, such as the Khmer, Kui, Lao, and Thai-Chinese communities, while also supporting the provincial economy.

The main festival activities will be held at the Srinarong Stadium and the Surin Elephant Show Grounds. These will feature a 200-elephant parade and a major elephant feeding banquet on November 20 near the Phraya Surin Phakdi Sri Narong Changwang Monument. The primary elephant performances are scheduled for November 21-22, showcasing the bond between humans and elephants through six distinct shows. Additional activities will include a local silk pageant, fashion shows, local product sales, and a charity raffle.
