Udon Thani: Police in Udon Thani Province have swiftly moved to rescue an 18-year-old girl who was deceived into working for a call center gang, following an alarming call from her relatives. The girl, identified as Ms. Busara, broke into tears upon learning that an arrest warrant was issued against her for involvement in a mule account case, prompting her to seek help from authorities.
According to Thai News Agency, officers from Chai Wan Police Station, along with senior district officials and local government representatives, visited a house in Phon Sung Subdistrict to discuss the situation with Mr. Boonkhong, the 68-year-old homeowner. Mr. Boonkhong, who is Ms. Busara's grandfather, provided insights into her predicament. He revealed that Ms. Busara had gone to Cambodia for computer-related work and had recently returned home before going back again. On discovering her involvement in opening a mule account, he had reported it to the district office to have it closed, although he remains uncertain about the account's current status.
In a bid to assist Ms. Busara, her grandfather initiated a video call with her, enabling officers to gather more details about her account activities despite poor connectivity. Ms. Busara, overwhelmed with fear of arrest, was unable to disclose her exact location, expressing concerns about the potential threat from the call center gang leaders. She indicated she would reach out again when it was safer to do so.
Recent communications from Ms. Busara's relatives have located her in Sihanoukville, where she earns a meager salary of 17,000 baht per month, most of which is deducted by her supervisor. Additionally, she was informed that a payment of 1,000 dollars is required for her release back to Thailand. Police are collaborating with relevant agencies to secure her return. Upon her safe rescue, legal measures will be undertaken to establish her innocence in the mule account case.
