Landslide Tragedy in Khanom District: Two Workers Dead, Two Rescued

Khanom: A landslide tragically claimed the lives of two workers laying water pipes in the Khanom District of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The incident occurred when a sudden collapse buried four workers alive, resulting in two fatalities while the other two were successfully rescued.

According to Thai News Agency, the landslide took place at approximately 3:00 PM yesterday behind Suwan Temple. Khanom Police Station received a report and arrived on the scene to find fellow workers and local villagers desperately digging to rescue their colleagues. Two workers were saved but were found to be severely exhausted. Unfortunately, for Mr. Worapong, aged 48, and Mr. Kritsada, aged 31, the rescue came too late, and they were discovered deceased beneath the rubble.

Investigations revealed that the workers were part of a project by the Provincial Waterworks Authority of Khanom District, which involved excavating a trench over 2 meters deep to lay water pipes. The collapse occurred unexpectedly while all four workers were at the trench's bottom. The soil's instability was attributed to the composition of the land, with a top layer of laterite and a bottom layer of sandy soil, which quickly gave way, resulting in the tragic event. Officials are currently collecting evidence to proceed with legal action regarding the incident.
