Mukdahan: Mukdahan Province has reported two cases of anthrax infection, resulting in one fatality while another individual remains under medical care. Health officials have identified 638 individuals who may be at risk due to contact with the virus.
According to Thai News Agency, the anthrax situation has unfolded in Tambon Lao Mi, Don Tan District, Mukdahan Province. The outbreak has led to the death of one person on April 30, with another still receiving treatment for the infection. Additionally, three individuals are suspected of having contracted anthrax and are currently under hospital care.
The group at risk includes 36 beef butchers, 472 individuals who consumed raw meat, and 130 people who reside with the butchers. All 638 individuals have been screened and provided with preventive medication to mitigate the risk of infection.
Concerned residents have been visiting Ban Leu Mi Subdistrict Health Promotion Hospital for guidance. Health staff are actively advising the community on symptom observation and encouraging immediate medical consultation if symptoms arise.
