Mae Sot: A thief who stole 102 baht worth of gold has been arrested in a famous shopping mall in Mae Sot District, Tak Province. A robber, disguised in a rider’s uniform, was apprehended for the gold heist from a gold shop in the mall. The investigation also led to the arrest of his wife at her residence in Mueang District, Tak Province.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Thanayut Wutticharatthamrong, Assistant Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, conducted a press conference detailing the arrest of Mr. Somchai, 39. The suspect, clad in a rider’s uniform, carried out the robbery alone with a firearm at the beginning of March. He was arrested at a safe house in Chiang Mai Province, where he was found wearing a gold necklace and a gold-framed Buddha amulet. Additional gold necklaces were confiscated during the arrest. The investigation expanded to include the arrest of his wife in Mueang District, Tak Province.
The couple devised a plan to conceal the motorcycle used in the crime inside a covered pickup truck, driven by Somchai’s wife. This truck was utilized to transport the motorcycle to the scene of the crime and later to aid their escape. Post-robbery, they dismantled the vehicle and sought refuge in Chiang Mai until their capture. Authorities are working to expand the investigation and suspect potential involvement of other individuals in the crime.
