Roi Et: Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, along with Ms. Jiraporn Sinthuprai, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister's Office, traveled to Roi Et Province to oversee the second phase of the debt relief initiative aimed at boosting farmers' income. Their visit included stops at Chaturaphak Phiman Ratchaphisek School and Roi Et College of Agriculture and Technology, where they reviewed the progress of the 'Project to Rehabilitate and Develop the Potential of Debt Suspension Customers under the Debt Suspension Measures for Small Debtors in Accordance with Government Policy (Phase 2).' The officials engaged with more than 7,000 project participants and were welcomed by local government leaders and MPs from various Roi Et districts.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Pichai highlighted the government's focus on revitalizing the grassroots economy, particularly in agriculture. He stressed the need for debt suspension measures to be paired with initiatives for career development and skill enhancement to ensure long-term income growth for farmers. Emphasizing the importance of adequate water supply and affordable production factors, Mr. Pichai outlined the necessary conditions for economic recovery and stability in the Northeast's agricultural sector.
In the afternoon session, Mr. Pichai chaired a meeting at Roi Et Provincial Hall to discuss the progress of economic activities in the province. The meeting involved discussions with both government and private sector representatives. Reports indicated that more than 343,000 farmers from the upper northeastern region, representing 94.9% of those eligible, participated in the debt relief project.
During the visit, various activities aimed at supporting education and career development were conducted. These included awarding scholarships, providing grants to support juristic persons, and donating computers to local schools. Financial institutions such as the Government Savings Bank and the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) also extended financial support for educational development initiatives in the region.
