Chusak Clarifies Delay in Digital Money Phase 3 Not Against Policy

Bangkok: "Chusak" points out that delaying phase 3 of digital money is not against the policy because phases 1 and 2 have already been done. According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chusak Sirinil, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, stated that the potential delay of Phase 3 of the 10,000-baht digital wallet distribution would not violate the policy announced to the House of Representatives. This is because Phases 1 and 2 have already been completed. He clarified that while the current situation may necessitate a postponement of Phase 3, it does not imply that the initiative will be abandoned altogether. Instead, alternative economic stimulus mechanisms might be considered.

In addressing concerns about adhering to parliamentary policies, Mr. Chusak explained that historically, deviations from announced policies have been discussed in parliament. He emphasized that the current government has already implemented numerous projects, and the potential delay does not indicate a complete halt but rather a reconsideration of the timeline.

Meanwhile, Mr. Prasert Chantarawongthong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society, discussed the readiness of the digital wallet payment system for Phase 3. He delegated the responsibility to the Ministry of Finance to provide clarity on whether the system will be operational in time. Mr. Prasert noted that the payment system is prepared, but all decisions depend on the Ministry of Finance. He also mentioned that there has been no discussion about the possibility of canceling the project.
