Bangkok: Thailand has assured there are no financial hurdles in organizing the Women's Volleyball World Championship. Mr. Kritsada Tanterdit, Secretary to the Minister of Tourism and Sports, along with Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, and Mr. Somporn Usibangyang, President of the Volleyball Association of Thailand, addressed concerns about the budget for the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship. This event is scheduled to be held in Thailand from August 22 to September 7, 2025.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Kritsada emphasized the government's commitment to supporting this prestigious event, highlighting the significance of the Thai women's volleyball team on the global stage. The government has allocated 450 million baht from the central budget and an additional 200 million baht from the National Sports Development Fund. The remaining 450 million baht will be funded through ticket sales, private sector support, and other sources, with 50 million baht expected from ticket revenue and 100 million baht from private sector contributions.
Mr. Somporn Usibangyang elaborated that the remaining budget will also involve contributions from local organizations in the host provinces of Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Nakhon Ratchasima. He stressed the importance of public participation through purchasing tickets, souvenirs, or other forms of support, clarifying that this is not a fundraising drive but a means to encourage community involvement. The International Volleyball Federation (FIV) expressed confidence in Thailand's capability to host the championship successfully, with a press conference on the country's readiness scheduled for May 28th.
Additionally, the status of the 2025 Volleyball Nations League broadcasting rights in Thailand remains uncertain. The Thai women's team is set to play its first match of Week 1 against Poland in Beijing, China, on June 4.
