Bangkok: Abhisit Vejjajiva expressed confidence that the Democrat Party is ready to offer the best choice to Bangkok residents. He led the orientation session for Bangkok City Council candidates, highlighting their readiness in both policy and team to reassure the public. He also confirmed that the gubernatorial candidate will be unveiled on May 16th.
According to Thai News Agency, Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader of the Democrat Party, gave an interview before attending the orientation for Bangkok Metropolitan Council (BMA) candidates of the Democrat Party, stating that the meeting was to clarify understanding of working within the party's framework and election laws, after the party had approved candidates for all constituencies. He considered this a crucial process in building unity to serve the people.
Abhisit Vejjajiva confirmed that the party's official candidate for Bangkok governor will be announced on May 16th. He hinted that the candidate will be a man with outstanding qualifications, under 60 years old, possessing a good personality, and having an impressive work history. He also emphasized that the party is not worried about the competition but is focused on offering the best possible choice to Bangkok residents through its team of city councilors and policies that address their quality of life.
"We believe it is our duty to offer options to all Bangkok residents. The party has prepared its candidates, policies, and team to fill in any shortcomings and make the public feel more secure," Abhisit stated.
During the orientation for Bangkok City Council candidates organized by the party today, Mr. Abhisit mentioned the significant and simple alignment between the Democrat Party's democratic values and its approach to local government work. He stated that it was remarkable that the party's founders 80 years ago wrote down 10 core principles, one of which emphasized that "the state should decentralize power to local authorities as much as possible." He added, "Imagine 80 years ago there were no Provincial Administrative Organizations (PAOs), no Sub-district Administrative Organizations (SAOs), no gubernatorial elections-nothing. But that was the party's ideology from its founding. That's why we are a party that supports and promotes the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Act that we currently use, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Act of 1985."
