Abhisit Vejjajiva Campaigns in Bangkok, Confident in Democrat Party’s Rebound

Bangkok: Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader of the Democrat Party, is actively campaigning in Bangkok's Seri 2 Market located in the Bang Kho Laem-Yannawa districts. The campaign, characterized by a warm reception from local vendors and residents, reflects renewed support for the Democrat Party in the area.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Abhisit's assessment of the campaign suggests a significant improvement in the party's popularity across various districts in Bangkok. He noted that many districts now have a strong chance of winning, while others are in close competition with their rivals. This resurgence is attributed to the recovery of the party's traditional voter base and new support from different demographics.

Additionally, the campaign addressed concerns about strategic voting trends and manipulative practices intended to influence voters towards specific parties. Mr. Abhisit emphasized that such trends do not align with the actual on-ground data and warned that succumbing to them could lead to election outcomes similar to those in the past. The Democrat Party remains committed to a policy-driven approach, prioritizing collaboration for national governance.

Furthermore, Mr. Abhisit voiced his support for the efforts of the Bank of Thailand and the Election Commission in tackling illicit financial activities and vote buying. Highlighting the importance of monitoring significant cash movements, he urged these agencies to employ all legal means to prevent corruption, thereby ensuring a fair, transparent, and trustworthy election process.
