Rom Klao:Actress Beer-Kwan Usamanee has filed a police report against a man accused of misusing nearly 200,000 baht intended for flood relief donations. The man, posing as a volunteer, allegedly scammed several celebrities and monks.
According to Thai News Agency, Ajarn Beer, a Dhamma figure, and actress Kwan-Usamanee Vaithayanon reported the case at Rom Klao Police Station. They seek legal action against the man who claimed to be coordinating flood relief, raising suspicions of misused donations. Ajarn Beer contributed nearly 200,000 baht, and Kwan-Usamanee donated 36,000 baht, with total damages possibly reaching 1 million baht.
Ajarn Beer recounted meeting the man while assisting flood victims. The man, claiming to be a disciple of Luang Ta Sinlapas, presented himself as a coordinator, prompting Ajarn Beer to support him financially. However, discrepancies arose, such as mismatches in reported meals. Ajarn Beer noted potential broader impacts on other donors and estimated damages near 1 million baht.
Kwan Usamanee encountered the man during relief efforts. Despite warnings, she donated money, recognizing Ajarn Beer's contributions. Suspicion arose when the man used identical receipts for multiple donors. She urged police to examine his financial dealings and others potentially involved.
A male witness recounted that the accused asked him to an entertainment venue. The man claimed to have 40,000 baht in cash from "A. Beer" and assured no excessive spending. The witness is prepared to clarify his non-involvement in the alleged misconduct.
The accused, contacted by reporters, asserted his innocence, stating donations funded kitchen supplies. He denied using funds for personal expenses and offered to address all allegations. Rom Klao Police Station is expediting the investigation, reviewing evidence to ensure fairness and legal compliance.
