Bangkok: Akranan Kankittinant, the Deputy Minister of Education, has made a heartfelt appeal to students of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, urging them not to abandon their education due to the recent crisis of losing eligibility for the government welfare card.
According to Thai News Agency, Akranan's plea comes in response to the concerning trend of student dropouts at SKR School, attributed to their inability to meet the criteria for the state welfare card. In a bid to tackle the issue head-on, Akranan has ordered immediate coordination with all relevant agencies to find a resolution, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that no student has to choose between their education and their family's survival.
The Deputy Minister addressed the issue, highlighting that the Ministry of Education is fully aware and actively seeking solutions. Akranan stressed that education and essential rights should not be mutually exclusive. Urging students to remain calm and continue their studies, he assured them of the Ministry's urgent efforts to resolve the situation. "Since hearing the news, I have been uneasy because I don't want to see any students having to drop out due to concerns about their rights or family responsibilities. Their duty is to study and pursue their dreams. Solving this problem is our responsibility. Please, don't drop out of school," he stated.
Reiterating the importance of education for the future, Akranan emphasized that the Ministry will not abandon students in this crisis. He promised that he, along with the Ministry's executives, will stand by the students and expedite discussions with relevant agencies to identify the best solutions. He reassured students that the Ministry of Education is committed to supporting them and ensuring uninterrupted studies, urging them to remain hopeful and dedicated to their education.
