Anutin Advocates for Special Parliament Session to Expedite Constitutional Amendments

Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, has voiced support for convening a special parliamentary session aimed at amending the constitutional bill in its second and third readings. This move seeks completion by the year's end, fulfilling the Bhumjaithai-Prachachon Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). According to Thai News Agency, Anutin, who leads the Bhumjaithai Party, addressed the People's Party's call for an extraordinary parliamentary session to discuss the constitutional amendments. He confirmed that his party is actively addressing this issue. Paradorn Prisananantakul, Minister of the Prime Minister's Office and Member of Parliament for Ang Thong from the Bhumjaithai Party, is coordinating with the government to facilitate the special session. Parliament is preparing for this extraordinary session to ensure the constitutional amendment's second and third readings align with the MOA conditions. Anutin emphasized the binding nature of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Bhumjaithai Party and the Prachachon Party, reassuring that the process will proceed as agreed. He downplayed any concerns, urging confidence in the established agreement. When questioned about the drafting committee's proposal for a single body to draft a new constitution, specifically the suggested 35-member Drafting Committee, Anutin deferred details to Mr. Paradorn, indicating further discussions would be handled by him.
