Anutin Charnvirakul Addresses Flood Crisis in Khlong Chan

Khlong Chan:Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul continued his efforts for the second consecutive day to address the flood crisis in Khlong Chan, Bang Kapi District. He, along with cabinet ministers and officials from relevant agencies, distributed relief supplies to affected residents.

According to Thai News Agency, Anutin set up a royal mobile kitchen in front of the NIDA Institute to prepare and distribute meals quickly. Relief supplies were delivered using flat-bottomed boats, and tap water quality was checked in various buildings.

Anutin explained that the ongoing flooding is due to the high water levels outside the canals, which prevents effective drainage. He assured that if there is no additional rainfall, the situation should improve in 1-2 days as water is drained into the sea. The government plans to intensify pumping efforts and has committed to purchasing new pumps to replace any damaged equipment.

The Prime Minister addressed criticisms of working from an ivory tower, emphasizing his commitment to addressing the immediate needs of the flood victims by ensuring access to electricity, food, and drinking water. Anutin acknowledged public dissatisfaction and emphasized the government's readiness to listen to feedback. He expressed understanding of the emotions of those affected, stating that expressing their feelings is important and that overall, there was gratitude and appreciation from most people.

On September 29th, a proposal will be submitted to the Cabinet for the approval of a central budget allocation of over 2 billion baht. This budget aims to provide relief to flood victims across Thailand, including in Bangkok, and to expedite post-flood recovery efforts.
