Putrajaya: Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is preparing for an official visit to Malaysia on July 9-10, leading a delegation to discuss cooperation in all dimensions and to promote the border economy.
According to Thai News Agency, this visit will involve discussions on border economic development, trade, and security, with a Memorandum of Understanding on agriculture set to be signed to improve the quality of life for citizens. Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the official visit will include meetings with Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur. The aim is to elevate bilateral relations and promote cooperation in economic affairs, security, and quality of life improvements.
Ms. Ratchada emphasized the significance of Malaysia as Thailand's number one trading partner in ASEAN, highlighting the close ties and existing cooperation between the two countries. The visit presents an opportunity to enhance competitiveness, strengthen preparedness to cope with external fluctuations, and create economic opportunities for long-term mutual benefits.
Key areas of focus during this visit include trade and investment promotion, agriculture, food and energy security, transportation and logistics development, border economies, border security, and addressing issues in Thailand's southern border provinces.
Ms. Rachada also noted that the visit will involve discussions between high-level representatives from both countries to expedite negotiations and foster cooperation across various fields. The Prime Minister aims for tangible results from overseas visits, addressing problems, reducing operational obstacles, opening markets, and creating new opportunities for Thai people and businesses.
On July 9, 2026, the Prime Minister and his delegation will depart for Kuala Lumpur International Airport, engage in discussions, and participate in the signing of an MOU on agriculture at the Perdana Putra Complex in Putrajaya. In the evening, the Prime Minister will meet with Thai and Malaysian business representatives to explore further business cooperation opportunities.
The following day, the Prime Minister will travel to the new Sadao Customs checkpoint in Songkhla Province to inaugurate the road connecting it with the Bukit Kayu Hitam checkpoint, alongside the Malaysian Prime Minister. This project aims to enhance border connectivity. After the ceremony, the delegation will attend a luncheon with Malaysian representatives before returning to Bangkok.
