Kuala Lumpur: Malaysian Prime Minister, Dato' Seri Anwar Bin Ibrahim, expressed gratitude towards Thaksin Shinawatra at the 46th ASEAN Summit for his significant contributions in addressing the Myanmar crisis. Anwar's remarks during the summit highlighted Thaksin's role as head of the ASEAN Chairman's advisory team, acknowledging the progress made in finding solutions to the ongoing conflict.
According to Thai News Agency, Anwar delivered his speech amid a gathering of media representatives from ASEAN and beyond, emphasizing the crucial efforts undertaken by the advisory board led by former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. He commended the team's involvement in advancing a resolution to the Myanmar crisis, while also calling for collaboration among ASEAN leaders and various sectors to fortify the ASEAN Community through inclusive and sustainable participation.
Jirayu Huangsap, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, noted Anwar's optimism about ASEAN's future. The Malaysian Prime Minister remains confident in ASEAN's capacity to navigate geopolitical transitions and global trade challenges, particularly in light of high tariffs imposed by the United States. To address these issues, Anwar announced the establishment of the ASEAN Geo-economics Task Force.
Furthermore, Anwar underscored the unity and centrality of ASEAN, stating that the organization is well-equipped to face various challenges. The summit also marked the launch of the first ASEAN-GCC-China Summit, a trilateral meeting symbolizing the diverse partnerships among global powers, which is expected to yield significant positive outcomes.
