Lampang: Authorities raided a Bitcoin mining operation that was stealing electricity, causing nearly 3 million baht in damages. Police at Khelang Nakhon Police Station in Lampang province conducted the operation, uncovering illegal activities that had resulted in initial damages estimated at 2.5 million baht.
According to Thai News Agency, the police, acting on a search warrant from Lampang Provincial Court, targeted a rented commercial building on the Lampang-Ngao Super Highway in Phra Bat Subdistrict, Mueang District. The raid was conducted in cooperation with the manager of the Provincial Electricity Authority of Lampang. Reports had emerged of illegal electricity usage in the building, with direct wiring supplying electricity without a meter. During the inspection, it was found that electricity continued to be used within the building.
Further inspection revealed that modifications had been made to install 18 Bitcoin mining machines. The initial estimated damage from the operation is approximately 2.5 million baht, with an additional fine of 400,000 baht. The building owner stated that the rooms had been rented out since September 15, 2025, at a total monthly rent of 12,000 baht for the two rooms. The owner claimed no checks had been conducted on the premises. There was a potential risk of fire due to the high electricity consumption and hot weather, highlighting the dangers associated with the operation.
