Badminton Association of Thailand Addresses Morale Issues Amid SEA Games Controversy

Bangkok: The president of the Badminton Association of Thailand made a significant move to uplift the spirits of three prominent badminton players following a recent controversy. Air Chief Marshal Monthon Satchukorn visited the Baan Thong Yod badminton court to present financial support and shuttlecocks to players Ratchanok Intanon, Kunlavut Vitidsant, and Pornpawee Chochuwong. This gesture was part of an effort to address the issues arising from the significant deduction in allowances for the 2025 SEA Games.

According to Thai News Agency, Pornpawee Chochuwong expressed her primary concern not for the financial deductions but rather for the need for changes in the management of the association's Sports Excellence Development Department. She highlighted several past mistakes, including poor coordination for physical testing and the omission of athletes' names, which have not been acknowledged by the management. These issues have resulted in lost opportunities and demoralization among athletes, and Pornpawee believes that a change in team management is necessary.

Ratchanok "May" Intanon shared her experiences, noting that while previous SEA Games participations were problem-free, the current situation has introduced several challenges that have demoralized athletes. Her call to action urges the association to address and resolve these issues to prevent recurrence, emphasizing the athletes' collective desire to honor Thailand and the association.

Kunlavut "View" Vitidsant expressed concern about the negative impact of such controversies on aspiring young badminton players. He supports the proactive stance taken by "P'Mew" to seek justice and better conditions for the athletes, reinforcing the commitment of all players to serve the national team.

In response, Air Chief Marshal Monthon Satchukorn clarified that the financial support provided was not a deduction from the athletes' allowances but a means to boost morale following the controversy. He assured that steps would be taken to resolve the issues, although the potential replacement of individuals as suggested by "Mew" remains uncertain.
