Bangkok:Nearly half of Bangkok residents have expressed high admiration for the efforts of rescue foundations, volunteers, and other groups during the recent major floods in the city. In contrast, the Prime Minister and the government received the lowest approval scores in their response to the crisis.
According to Thai News Agency, the NIDA Poll from the National Institute of Development Administration conducted a survey from October 5-7, 2026, involving 1,310 eligible voters across Bangkok's 50 districts. The survey aimed to identify who the residents believed deserved praise for their response during the floods at the end of September. The survey used a probability sampling method, ensuring a 97.0% confidence level with a margin of error of 0.05.
The survey results indicated that 45.95% of respondents credited foundations, rescue teams, and volunteer organizations for their effective assistance during the floods. A significant portion, 30.23%, felt that no one deserved praise, while 16.41% acknowledged the efforts of the Governor of Bangkok. Other groups receiving recognition included the Governor's team, specific web pages and social media, the military, and relevant Bangkok Metropolitan Administration officials.
In assessing the impact of the floods, 36.41% of respondents reported being completely safe, while others experienced varying degrees of flooding affecting their homes, routes to work, and vehicles.
When asked about lessons learned, 38.55% of residents believed that while lessons have been learned, they doubted the ability to prevent and solve future problems. Meanwhile, 27.56% were optimistic that the lessons learned would aid in future prevention and problem-solving efforts.
