According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana, Deputy Government Spokesperson, reported that Mr. Suchart Chomklin, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), has shared progress on the "Big Cleaning: Returning Happiness to Songkhla People" operation. This initiative brings together all agencies under the MNRE with the aim of expediting the rehabilitation of Hat Yai City after recent floods and restoring normalcy as swiftly as possible.
On the operation's first day, officials collected more than 300 tons of garbage, debris, mud, and sewage. They also cleaned buildings, road surfaces, walkways, and other key public areas, particularly around Wat Hong Pradittharam (Wat Kho Hong) and Thesaban 3 Sophon Pittayakunnusorn School. The cleaning effort covered more than 28,800 square meters (18 rai) to prevent disease outbreaks following the water receding.
The restoration effort is a collaborative endeavor involving various agencies within the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, including the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, the Royal Forest Department, the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, and the Pollution Control Department. Over 780 personnel, 88 vehicles, and more than 4,000 pieces of equipment have been deployed, working continuously from morning until night.
In addition to the cleaning efforts, 5,500 cooked meals were distributed to affected residents to alleviate their suffering and boost morale.
The deputy spokesperson mentioned that this operation showcases the "united power of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment," capable of producing tangible results. The government is committed to continuing recovery efforts until the people of Hat Yai can safely return to their normal lives.
