Border Crossing Discussions Continue Amid Controversy, Sihasak Emphasizes Safety

Bangkok: Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkaew, the prospective Minister of Foreign Affairs, arrived at the Bhumjaithai Party headquarters at 12:30 PM to address ongoing discussions about the Thai-Cambodian border situation. He stated that the policies discussed would need to be written and presented to Parliament, with a focus on public safety as a top priority.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sihasak emphasized the need for further discussions regarding the opening and closing of the border crossings, a topic that has sparked controversy. The results of the recent General Border Committee (GBC) meeting were positive, and he noted that public safety remains a priority. The implementation of compliance measures will be reviewed, and further steps will be considered based on these discussions.

Mr. Sihasak highlighted the importance of aligning discussions with key principles, particularly in light of pressure from various parties to keep the border checkpoint closed. He acknowledged that while there are many constructive issues to address, the safety of people in the border areas is of utmost importance.

When questioned about Cambodia's previous reluctance to accept the meeting's results, Mr. Sihasak expressed optimism, stating that everything now seemed on track. He also conveyed hope that upcoming government changes would lead to a more favorable response, stressing the importance of sincerity in these discussions.
