Chatchart Pushes for Swift Solutions to Railway Crossing Challenges

Bangkok: Bangkok Governor Chatchart Sittipunt has intensified efforts to address the persistent issues at railway crossings following a recent bus-train collision. He announced a comprehensive review of all railway crossings within Bangkok, emphasizing the importance of ensuring clear and complete signage under the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's (BMA) jurisdiction. The incident, which occurred on a complex road network with parallel roads, has led to significant traffic congestion. Addressing this challenge requires collaborative efforts with the police and the State Railway of Thailand. Although BMA police primarily manage sidewalks, they are expected to assist in guiding traffic enforcement.

According to Thai News Agency, Governor Chatchart also responded to the Prime Minister's suggestion of constructing an underpass as a long-term solution. He mentioned that there have been historical projects aimed at elevating the railway line along this route. While options such as elevating the railway or building an underpass are being considered, the decision will hinge on the engineering feasibility and the slope of nearby roads. Governor Chatchart believes that elevating the railway could be a viable solution, but the final decision will be based on engineering suitability, with input from all relevant parties to ensure the best outcome.
