Bangkok: Chatchart Sittipunt has emerged as the leading candidate in the first round of the Bangkok gubernatorial election, securing 67% of the vote, according to the latest survey conducted by NIDA Poll.
According to Thai News Agency, the NIDA Poll, a public opinion survey center at the National Institute of Development Administration, released the survey results under the title "The First Stretch of the Bangkok Governor Election 2026." The survey, conducted between June 2-4, 2026, sampled 2,000 eligible voters across all 50 districts in Bangkok, representing a spectrum of educational levels, occupations, and income levels. The survey, which focused on the electoral trends for the Governor of Bangkok and members of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council, utilized probability sampling from NIDA Poll's Master Sample database and employed multi-stage sampling with telephone interviews. The margin of error was set at a 97.0% confidence level with a 0.05 margin of error.
The survey results showed that Mr. Chatchart Sittipunt, running as an Independent, was the preferred choice for 67.30% of respondents. The second most common response was uncertainty, with 10.20% of participants indicating they were unsure. Mr. Chaiwat Sathavorawichit of the People's Party secured 8.20% of the vote, while 7.30% supported Ms. Mallika Boonmeetrakul Mahasuk, another Independent candidate. Mr. Anucha Burapachaisri from the Democrat Party received 3.10%, and Mom Luang Korkasivath Kasemsri, also an Independent, garnered 1.55%. A small percentage, 1.05%, indicated a preference to "Vote No," while 1.30% of participants supported other candidates.
The survey also analyzed voting trends by administrative districts in Bangkok. In Northern Bangkok, Chatchart Sittipunt led with 70.56%, followed by Chaiwat Sathavorawichit with 9.39%. The Central Bangkok area saw Sittipunt securing 64.60% and a higher uncertainty rate at 11.00%. In Bangkok East, Sittipunt commanded 70.53%, with Ms. Mallika Boonmeetrakul Mahasuk coming in second with 10.16%. The Southern Bangkok district group had Sittipunt at 62.99%, with uncertainty at 10.99%. In Northern Thonburi, Sittipunt led with 63.77%, while in Southern Thonburi, he secured 66.85%.
Regarding the Bangkok Metropolitan Council elections, 29.10% favored Independent candidates, while 26.50% supported the People's Party. Uncertainty remained a factor, with 18.35% undecided. The Democrat Party received 11.50%, while other parties and coalitions received smaller percentages. The survey also detailed preferences for Council members across various districts, with Independents generally leading but with significant support for the People's Party in certain areas.
This survey provides a snapshot of the current political landscape in Bangkok as residents prepare for the upcoming election phases.
