Bangkok: Pol. Lt. Gen. Nattasak Chaowanasai, Commander of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), announced plans to intensify efforts against scammers and streamline the process for returning stolen funds to victims by 2026. This announcement was made during an interview on the “Share the News” program aired on MCOT NEWS FM 100.5, where he discussed the CIB’s operations after the bureau qualified for the Thailand Top Vote 2025 competition for the second year in a row.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Nattasak highlighted that the recognition from the Thailand Top Vote competition signifies the success of the CIB’s communication strategy, which leverages online media to engage the public and demonstrate transparency and accountability across its 12 police divisions. This strategy showcases real-world achievements and reinforces the bureau’s commitment to public promises.
Amidst challenges posed by personnel shortages, with the Crime Suppression Division employing 8,000 officers against an allocation of 10,000 positions, Pol. Lt. Gen. Nattasak emphasized the importance of enhancing operational efficiency through technology and personnel development. This is crucial to bridging the manpower gap compared to the national police force, which operates with 200,000 officers out of 300,000 allocated positions.
The CIB has prioritized tackling scammer gangs and online fraud, particularly targeting losses suffered by retired police officers. In collaboration with the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO), the bureau is working to amend laws to facilitate faster recovery and distribution of funds to victims, bypassing lengthy legal processes if ownership is undisputed by suspects.
The Crime Suppression Division (CSD) aims to fulfill its duties under the motto “Professional, Impartial, and Standing by the People,” focusing on delivering measurable outcomes through arrests, prosecutions, and serious crackdowns on scammer gangs. The bureau seeks to collaborate with various sectors to alleviate public distress by returning stolen funds to rightful owners, thereby safeguarding public interests and maintaining crime control within its jurisdiction.
Furthermore, Pol. Lt. Gen. Nattasak encouraged the public to participate in voting for H3 to boost officer morale and support the bureau’s continued public service efforts.
