Civic group files complaint against KFA chief over new football coach

A civic group filed a complaint Monday against Chung Mong-gyu, president of the Korea Football Association (KFA), over the recent controversial hiring of Hong Myung-bo as the new men's national team head coach. The civic group, which calls itself the People's Livelihood Countermeasures Committee, said it submitted the complaint to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, accusing Chung of obstruction of business, breach of trust and blackmail. The appointment of Hong as the new head coach amid numerous opposing opinions constitutes an obstruction of business by force and the failure to determine Hong's annual salary was a breach of trust, the civic group claimed. It also said that the KFA's threat of legal action against Park Joo-ho, one of Hong's former players, who exposed procedural problems in Hong's appointment process, is no different from blackmail not only against Park but also against the public.
