Bangkok: The consumer confidence index in Thailand has recorded a notable milestone, surpassing the 50 mark for the first time in four months, signifying a positive trajectory in the nation's economic recovery.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced that the consumer confidence index for June 2026 rose to 50.2. This resurgence in public confidence is attributed to the government's strategic initiatives aimed at managing living costs, stimulating consumer spending, enhancing agricultural income, boosting tourism, and sustaining export growth.
Ms. Rachada emphasized the significance of the consumer confidence index as a vital indicator of public sentiment regarding the economy and purchasing power. She noted that the increase in the index is a clear indication that economic recovery signs are becoming more evident and that government actions are effectively bolstering public confidence.
Highlighting the 'Thai Helps Thai Plus' project, Ms. Rachada explained how this initiative is pivotal in alleviating living expenses and promoting economic circulation at the grassroots level. It aids in income distribution to local shops, small business owners, farmers, and communities, thereby fortifying the domestic economy and supporting citizens.
The Prime Minister has directed economic agencies to leverage the resurgence of consumer confidence to implement further economic measures. These include broadening export markets, enhancing Thai entrepreneurs' capabilities, and capitalizing on the recovery in tourism with an emphasis on income distribution to communities. Furthermore, the government aims to accelerate investment in future industries, technology, digital technology, clean energy, and infrastructure to ensure sustainable long-term economic growth.
While the recovery signals are promising, Ms. Rachada cautioned against complacency due to the volatility of the global economy and the ongoing challenges posed by high living costs and debt for many citizens. The government remains committed to regulating commodity and energy prices, generating income, expanding economic opportunities, and maintaining recovery momentum to ensure all citizens benefit and the Thai economy grows sustainably.
