Coping with El Ni±o: Adjusting Water Management Plans and Promoting the Cultivation of Water-Efficient Crops

Bangkok: Since the beginning of the year, rainfall nationwide has been nearly 30% below normal. Many are watching closely as the country enters El Ni±o territory in the middle of the year. The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives is therefore proceeding with plans to manage water resources to ensure sufficient supply for all sectors, in order to mitigate the risk of prolonged dry spells and drought.

According to Thai News Agency, the Ministry's strategy includes the adjustment of water management plans and the promotion of water-efficient crops. These measures aim to address the challenges posed by the significant drop in rainfall and the potential impact of El Ni±o on agriculture and water availability. By implementing these strategies, the Ministry hopes to secure enough water resources for both agricultural and non-agricultural sectors, thereby reducing the adverse effects of potential drought conditions.
