Department of Global Warming Hosts Meeting to Curb Single-Use Plastics


Bangkok: The Department of Global Warming organized a meeting aimed at reducing the use of single-use plastics. The event, which was a collaboration between the Department of Global Warming Reduction, 76 provincial TSOM networks, and the private sector, focused on enhancing participation in tackling climate change challenges.

According to Thai News Agency, the Department of Climate Change and Environment, also known as the Department of Global Warming Reduction, held a workshop chaired by Mr. Pirun Saiyasitphanich, Director-General of the Department of Climate Change and Environment. The workshop aimed to empower leaders from the 76 provincial TSOM networks and Bangkok, encouraging cooperation with the private sector. The event included a joint declaration with Environmental Packaging Company Limited, led by CEO Dr. Weerachat Kittirattanapaiboon, to promote environmental packaging and drive Thailand towards a low-carbon society, while preparing local communities to address climate change effectively.

run stated that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, through the Department of Climate Change and Environment, is committed to managing the country’s climate change by collaborating with various sectors to meet national objectives. The Department has been instrumental in promoting the Village Volunteer Network for Natural Resources and Environment (VVN), a key civil society network participating in local activities. The event served to enhance the knowledge of VVN network leaders across all 76 provinces and Bangkok on critical issues such as promoting environmentally friendly products, reducing single-use plastics, and raising awareness about climate change impacts. Discussions and forums allowed for experience-sharing on environmentally friendly production and connecting knowledge on climate change, with participation from government and private entities.

Additionally, the Department of Global Warming announced its intention to promote environmentally friendly packaging in partnership with Env
ironmental Packaging Company Limited. Activities included an event titled ‘Taste, Watch, Show, Shop, Share, and See Products, Sip Coffee to Solve Burning’ at Chim and Chom on the first floor of the Department building. An exhibition on environmentally friendly production linked climate change knowledge with the environmentally friendly coffee shop network, and a ceremony was held to present a symbolic plaque to Chim and Chom and the network. These activities showcased the collaborative efforts of the government, private, and public sectors in driving Thailand towards a sustainable, low-carbon future and improving readiness to manage climate change challenges.
