Bangkok: The Department of Highways is poised to restore full traffic flow on Section 7 of the M82 main highway, specifically the Rama 2 Road, during daytime hours starting Monday, March 2, 2026. Mr. Piyapong Chiwatnakulpaisan, Director-General of the Department of Highways, announced that preparations have been finalized to allow three lanes of inbound and outbound traffic, effectively alleviating congestion and minimizing travel disruptions for the public.
According to Thai News Agency, the recent completion of demolition work and the removal of temporary scaffolding on the Tha Chin River bridge marks a significant milestone. This progress has enabled the reopening of the Rama 2 Road from 5:30 AM to 8:00 PM. Officials have prepared the area by arranging barriers and cleaning the road surface, ensuring that full traffic flow will resume as planned.
During nighttime hours, traffic diversions will remain necessary between 8:00 PM and 5:30 AM. This is to facilitate ongoing construction work, including the dismantling of the form traveler structure and improvements to the median area between km 30 and km 30+500. These efforts aim to expand the road surface and conduct load tests in preparation for further installation of precast concrete segments. The Department of Highways will provide advance notice if daytime traffic diversions are required for future segment installations.
The Bang Khun Thian - Ban Phaeo section of the M82 project, spanning 24.6 kilometers, is showing promising progress. Of the 13 divided sections, nine, covering approximately 19.13 kilometers, have been completed. Sections 4, 5, 6, and 7, totaling approximately 5.47 kilometers, are still under construction. Sections 5 and 6 are nearing completion with progress rates of 96% and 89%, respectively, focusing mainly on structural detailing and safety equipment installation.
Section 4 continues to require traffic closures and diversions in certain areas for safety purposes, particularly during the installation of precast concrete segments. The overarching goal is to ensure that the road surface on Rama 2 Road is fully restored to facilitate smooth travel before the upcoming Songkran festival.
