Bangkok: Those wishing to acquire an international driving license can now easily apply through the Paotang app, as announced by the Department of Land Transport. The application process is available 24 hours a day, offering a seamless experience without the need to visit the transport office. Applicants can conveniently receive their driving license at home.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Seksom Akraphan, Deputy Director-General and Spokesperson of the Department of Land Transport, highlighted the upcoming Songkran Festival 2025, which features many consecutive holidays. For those planning to travel abroad and drive, the Paotang app provides a streamlined process for acquiring an international driving license. The process involves submitting an application, verifying information, confirming identity, making payment, and receiving the driving license by post. This service supports travel to countries under the Geneva Convention of 1949, such as Japan, South Korea, and the United States, and the Vienna Convention of 1968, including Germany and Switzerland. The total fee comprises 505 baht for the license application, 60 baht for postage, and a waived Krungthai Bank service fee until December 31, 2025.
Mr. Akraphan further noted the collaboration between the Department of Land Transport and Krungthai Bank Public Company Limited in developing this online service, which has received positive feedback. From December 13, 2024, to February 28, 2025, the 10 provinces with the highest number of applications via the Paotang app were Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan, Chonburi, Pathum Thani, Chiang Mai, Rayong, Phuket, Nakhon Pathom, and Songkhla, with Bangkok leading at 9,878 copies.
The Department of Land Transport encourages individuals to utilize the Paotang app for its convenience and speed, allowing applications to be submitted anytime, anywhere, without the need for travel. The service also ensures that the international driving license is delivered directly to applicants’ homes.
