Bangkok: The National Energy Policy Committee (NEPC), chaired by the Prime Minister, has approved a policy to cap the electricity tariff from September to December 2025 at a maximum of 3.99 baht per unit. This decision will hold unless there is a significant shift in energy costs, and the national budget will not be tapped for this purpose.
According to Thai News Agency, the meeting also addressed the additional purchase of electricity from renewable sources, particularly from groups that do not incur fuel and industrial waste costs. This move aligns with the plan to enhance electricity production from clean energy sources from 2023-2030, targeting areas yet to be implemented.
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira confirmed that the EGAT meeting resolved to maintain the electricity price at 3.99 baht per unit through the end of this year. He assured that barring any major incidents, the government is capable of sustaining this rate independently.
